Stopping at Cape Henlopen State Park beach to get some energy out of the dogs before driving to Assateague Island.

Having a lot of fun playing on the mounds of sand. We had gotten quite a large storm a couple nights ago and the sand is really high. It's covering most of the fence line which you can see from this picture. Crazy how powerful a storm can be!!
We drove the scenic route to get to Assateague Island. Was very beautiful!! Definitely some cool bridges!!

We went inside and learned some interesting facts about the horses. We also stamped our National Park book and got some information about the park itself.

We got back on the road to enter the park.
We entered the ticket area and because Tim is a veteran we get the annual pass for free. Yay!! So we will be able to go to all of the National Parks and visit for no charge. I think this is such a great way to honor the vets that have served this country.

When we stopped to get out there were lots of horse hoof marks in the ground as well as what we think are deer.
Lots of them in this one particular area.
This kid has sure seen a lot of wildlife. He really enjoyed watching them from afar.

What NOT to do at a National Park. Get out and act like the wild animals are tame. All over it tells you to not get out and pet the wild animals, yet people still do it......
Too bad we weren't staying longer. This would have been an awesome area to tent camp in the summer time.
Such a fun time exploring the Maryland side of this National Park. I do think the last time Tim and I were here that we did see more wild horses. Seems like they may all be on the Virginia side right now.
