We started the day off by heading to Legion Lake Lodge in Custer State Park for some Breakfast. It's so amazing how different a view can look from evening to morning. Our view at the Lake Lodge while eating breakfast!! I think Garrett was trying to pretend to be a pirate, but it just didn't want to stay in his eyeglasses, LOL. He loves his Daddy and Grandma so very much!! After breakfast we headed outside on the dock to have a look. Can you find the fisherman?? Look hard, he blends right in!! Taking a little nap along our way to the Badlands! Tim took the back way to get there and this was some of our view along the way. Very pretty!! Entering Badlands National Park!! First stop....Badlands National Park Welcome Center. Getting our book stamped. Garrett getting his Junior Ranger Book. Going through the museum to learn about what we are going to see while driving through the badlands!! We love all the hands on stuff for kids!! Garrett loves to learn this way!! While Dad and Grandma were finishing up inside, I took Garrett outside to let him climb for a bit. Lots of fun places to explore!! I didn't realize Tim had come outside and was getting some pictures of us :) Tim and Garrett going on a little hike!! They were actually pretty high up. Garrett is always climbing something..... Time to head out!! Yikes!! Always be on the lookout!! But stop to smell the flowers too, just enjoy life!! Remember when I said steep climb....I wasn't kidding.....my tennis shoes wouldn't grip good enough to get up here so Tim and Garrett went up without me. Lots of people coming down on their butts. I was really worried, we were really high up and Garrett and Tim were climbing up higher than what I already was. I stopped at the spot you see all the people in the picture below. Tim and Garrett climbed up to the top of that hill. What do you think the top would have looked like? Did you think there would be grass and flat? Yeah me either, till Tim showed me the pictures. Just goes to show you that things aren't always as they seem!! Another view looking the other way. This seems much more normal of what you would see up there!! They actually could have climbed all the way up to the top of the rock on the right, but Tim didn't want to chance doing that with Garrett. At least not until he gets a little older!! Everyone made it back down to the bottom safe and sound!! Back on the road, it definitely has a unique beauty to it! At one of our stops it explains about the rock layers. Walking along the boardwalk. One of our stops along the way talked about the Native Americans journey through the badlands. And sadly their demise by our own government at Wounded Knee. Stopping for lunch. Everyone including Sassy needing a good stretching!! We headed back out and went the wrong way. Little did we know that going the wrong way would actually be a blessing in disguise!! Heading back in the right direction there they were. 2 Bighorn male Sheep. So we headed right back to the place we just had lunch to watch them. So amazing!! One of the best experiences of my life and something I will never forget!! Back on the road. Didn't take long before we found more sheep. This time Mommas and their babies along with the males. Wow, we are getting so lucky in seeing these animals. They are just so awesome!! Going through Dillon's Pass. What?? More sheep, Yes Please!! I think Linda was really enjoying herself watching them. On our way out we saw some Bison and a couple of prairie dogs. Loved all the wildlife we got to see!! We wanted to make one more stop at Wall Drug before heading home. What is Wall Drug?? "Wall Drug Store, often called simply Wall Drug, is a tourist attraction located in the town of Wall, South Dakota. It is a cowboy-themed shopping mall consisting of a drug store, gift shop, restaurants and various other stores, as well as an art gallery and an 80-foot brontosaurus sculpture. Unlike a traditional shopping mall, all the stores at Wall Drug operate under a single entity instead of being individually run stores. The New York Times has described Wall Drug as "a sprawling tourist attraction of international renown draws some two million annual visitors to a remote town." They had lots of penny machines to choose from!! We had such an amazing day!! We got to see lots of wildlife and have fun playing at the end of the day at Wall Drug. So glad we get to experience all that we are able to on this life of ours!!
