Tim is a veteran of the Gulf War so all of his insurance is handled through the VA. Kathy and Garrett have a separate insurance policy. Tuesday of this week coming up we actually have our first appointment at the VA for Tim's insurance. We never had to use them previously because Kathy carried the insurance through her work. Looking forward to seeing how the VA handles the insurance and what the premiums to pay will be like. Kathy and Garrett have Medical Mutual through the Obamacare program. This program is a complete joke. We have a 10,000 deductible and after that our insurance will kick in. Our monthly premiums for this for the two of us is $150 per month. I chose the lowest plan available because we don't use the doctor very often, it is more of a catastrophic plan for us in case something serious happens.
Why do I say this plan is a joke? They say these plans are to help the lower and middle class. My question is if this person gets cancer or some other illness or has an accident and is out of work how are they going to continue to pay a monthly medical premium plus a $10,000 deductible before their insurance even starts kicking in? Most of the lower and middle class people I know are living paycheck to paycheck. Obama says this plan is to help them, but I'm just not seeing it in the plans that were available. Yes you could go with a higher monthly premium plan which was running around $400 per month or higher with a deductible of $2500 but these people cannot pay something that high. Especially the elderly who's medical bills are usually extremely high at that point. I'm just not seeing how this plan helps.
We also have the option of getting insurance usually through the companies that Tim works with. We've chosen not to go that route at this time because we aren't very sickly people, thankfully!! We usually are only going to the doctor for our routine check ups and with the new obamacare those are free so we really won't have much out of pocket costs. So we are sticking with the lower monthly premiums for now and Tim going to the VA for his medical. Together we review this on a yearly basis to see where we are at and to decide if something on our end needs to change.
Yesterday was a take it easy kind of day for us. We went out to eat lunch at Hotrods and then got groceries. Garrett is such a little flirt, he was having fun giving big grins to our waitress. It's such a pleasure to be able to see him bring joy to other people. Tim even mentioned that he's never seen such a sweet dispositioned baby. God definitely blessed us with our little guy!!
