We then headed back South to Madera. We had some time to kill before the musical so we walked around town for a bit.
During the program they use live horses and the backdrop of the landscape. This is a must see musical if you are ever in this area!!

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is comprised of 2 different sections. The South Unit which is where we were yesterday, and the North Unit which is where we are heading today. We arrived to the very little visitors center, got our map and headed out to explore. Garrett was all ready with his binoculars :) First stop was Cannonball Mystery. Sassy is watching our every move, LOL. Garrett was able to borrow a backpack with all the same books in it here in the North Unit of the park. So we were trying to find out what this bird was that Tim snapped a picture of. He was also trying to find the Beaver because that is the stuffed animal he chose from the visitors center. Drove a little ways up the road and oh my, it is so beautiful here!! One of our next stops. Garrett's favorite thing to do is go hiking. Today was wet and cold though so not as much fun! Grandma Sutton showing Garrett something along the path. You can see Garrett and I walking in the distance. They had lots of paths, but it would separate you from what seemed like a far distance because of how the landscape was. Playing on some rocks while waiting for Tim and Linda to come back to the truck. Bison we saw on the way back. It truly is so beautiful here!! We finished up and headed back to the Visitors Center where Garrett turned in his finished Junior Ranger packet and received another Junior Ranger badge. We then headed back South to Madera. We had some time to kill before the musical so we walked around town for a bit. It was getting close to dinner time so we headed over to the Madera Musical and Pitchfork Dinner. The steaks were skewered onto pitchforks and cooked. Garrett opted for a hot dog and we were able to dine on the terrace with spectacular views of the badlands. Unfortunately it was cold, windy and had been raining earlier so it was a hurry up and get done eating as quickly as you can. Patiently waiting for them to open the gates, at least they had characters walking around. Garrett was loving that!! This guy was teaching Garrett how to draw his gun quickly. They finally opened the gate and we then headed down an open-air escalator. It was actually quite interesting how they had it all set up. Our seats were pretty decent for looking at the stage. At the beginning of the musical they bring all of the kids up on stage. They give them these ring lights and have them bring out Sherriff Bear. Garrett was loving it!! The musical started and it was AWESOME!! The music was great, it was very patriotic and it was just a really good show. About 1/2 way through they brought out this roller skating group called breaksk8. They wanted 2 people to come up on stage and Garrett jumped up and started waving his hands. I'm sure his bright red shirt helped but he was one of the people to get picked. He was so excited!! The 2 brought up onstage had to show their dancing skills. Garrett did great, the crowd loved him :) For participating they gave him one of their posters. It hangs on his bed and he still talks about it to this day. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip! During the program they use live horses and the backdrop of the landscape. This is a must see musical if you are ever in this area!! We really enjoyed our time up here in North Dakota. This trip was amazing!!
