We left Gallup, New Mexico at around 7:30 AM to head to the Painted Desert and Petrified Forrest in Arizona. These are some of the scenic pictures I took along the way. Arizona, Woo Hoo!!! Finally arrived to the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park. We had about 1/2 day to get through the park and see what we wanted to see. I can't describe the beauty of this park. The different colors that you see from the Painted Desert was just amazing. We started off at the Visitors Center. We also took a 1.2 mile hike through the Painted Desert. We then crossed over the old Route 66 and also the Santa Fe Railroad. We came upon some ruins and petroglyphs that they drew when they lived here. I find these fascinating. I wonder if 300 years from now they will look at our graffiti the same way and find it beautiful. Here is Newspaper Rock where they had petroglyphs that they drew upon the rock. We then started into the Petrified Forest. Within just a 5 mile radius the colors go from the reds and oranges to blues and grays. It was so stunning. The wood is hard like marble now. We then headed out and stopped in Holbrook, AZ for more Mexican food. The woman at this cafe was extremely helpful and gave us some pointers on places to go and see while we were here in AZ. The next trek of our trip was through Flagstaff, AZ and I was shocked at the difference in the scenery. I thought we were back East from the trees and the beauty of the land. Arizona is definitely a beautiful state. Unfortunately I had taken so many pictures that my battery for the camera died before we got into Phoenix. So I will have to take some pictures tomorrow after we get settled in.
