The elevation was over 11,000 feet. You definitely couldn't have had a better view though!!
In case you are wondering it gets cold here in the mountains, even in June. Last night the lows were in the 30's. So you can tell we are all bundled up in our sleeping bags. Even the dog had to get covered up, LOL!! It may be cold at night, but once the sun comes out it sure starts to warm up!! Sassy and Garrett enjoying some outside time. Happy kids!! Getting ready to go out exploring. We purchased a back area book for Durango and will be using that to go exploring with. So much fun!! We made it to Silverton and got on the back roads. Oh man, so much beauty in this area. I'm just going to let the pictures tell the story!! The road we took was called the Alpine Loop. Here we go....... This is a 1 lane road so when other cars come you have to get really far over. Vehicles have actually fallen off the side because they were too far over. Definitely some white knuckle moments..... We stopped at Animas Forks. It is a very cool old mining ghost town. Such beautiful views and we really enjoyed exploring this old settlement of the late 1800's. Sure must have been tough back in the day to keep food on the table. Not to mention surviving the brutal winters they must have had in this desolate area. The elevation was over 11,000 feet. You definitely couldn't have had a better view though!! Time to head back now. We are going back the same direction we came in on. We then headed back, ate dinner and hit the sack. Unfortunately right now there are no fires allowed. So we decided the best thing to do was to go to bed and get a good nights rest!! Today was such an amazing day, can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring ;)
