Today we are heading to The Wilds. What is The Wilds? The Wilds is a private, non-profit safari park and conservation center that is home to rare and endangered species from the globe living in natural, open-range habitats. The property encompasses 9,154 acres of reclaimed coal mine land and includes 2,000 acres of pastures and a 27-acre Carnivore Conservation Center. The Wilds is the largest wildlife conservation center in North America. What we saw after we got off the bus from the parking lot. Waiting in line to board our Safari Truck. So exciting, here comes our Open Air Safari Truck. We are going to have such an adventure :) All aboard and ready to go!! Our Safari Driver giving us instructions. Our first stop, deer. Unfortunately those deer also got two of Garrett's pacifiers which he threw out the open window. Before you ask, no, I didn't have him next to the window, and no, I didn't realize he could throw that far. I wonder what kind of interesting things they find in the animals dung? I know two pacifiers are going to be something they will see. Ugh, Garrett!! Bison and White Rhinos. We passed by these donkey/horse animals. I can't remember now what they were called but they came so close to the truck that you could reach out and touch them. Another Rhino. Garrett was having a ball watching all of the animals and for some of them to get as close as they were was really neat!! Garrett having fun with the numbers on the seat. Next stop was the bird sanctuary. You could purchase a stick with some food on it for the birds and they would literally fly to your arm and eat it. Garrett was pretty unsure about this but Tim and I had fun :) We then went for a walk down by the pond. Garrett had fun exploring around the area. We then boarded our Safari Truck and headed to see the Giraffes. They are my favorite animal and I love watching them. Next up the Carnivore Conservation Center where we saw a Cheetah. The animals weren't very active at the center while we were there. We got back on the Safari Truck and headed out. They had some really nice lakes and ponds on the property. The Zebras were pretty far away and mainly staying under the shade. Next thing we know the truck turns the corner and all of a sudden there is an ostrich next to our truck. Our driver told us to keep all of our possessions close because these guys were known to steal items from you. Who knew an Ostrich could be such a criminal, geesh. I can't remember what kind of cows and deer these were. Pretty though!! More Rhinos. Each one was a different species, although I can't remember which was which. Some of them came pretty close to the Safari Truck. Different species of deer. Next up.....Bison. More animals, some we had already seen and are driving back through to see again. Oh my gosh.....the Camels. These guys were hilarious!! One of my favorite stops!! Our ride back to be dropped off. Our Safari Bus :) Eating lunch at the Gift Shop Center and Restaurant. They have ziplining on the property and there were a couple of people doing it while we were eating. Garrett having fun playing on the hill. What a beautiful place for some family photos!! Our ride on the bus to get back to our truck :) As we were driving out we saw a Hawk's nest. We took a different way home and came upon this cool S Bridge. Zanesville is known for their pottery. We decided to stop at Zanesville Pottery on the way home. The first time I have ever seen Garrett's name on a display. Of course they were out of them :( Having fun in the chairs!! And yes for those of you wondering it was that hard to get out of the chairs, LOL. We stopped at Kroger on the way home and this lady had permanent marked her car up. It was actually pretty neat! She was still working on it, wonder what the final outcome was. Ah, home sweet home. Sausage, Peppers, and Onions for dinner tonight. YUMMY!! Come on Grandma, take me for a ride.....please!! Was a really great day!!
