So our first night in the tent was a success!! We had our electric heater in with us and we all had blow up mattresses that we slept on. In the middle of the night I did hear several coyotes. I was very thankful to be so close to the bathrooms, LOL. This morning we woke up, got our coffee from the office and while Garrett rode his bike we took a walk. This is our view from our tent this morning. So pretty!! We then let Garrett play at the playground for a little while as we began tearing down the tent site. We finished up around 10:30 and headed out for Breakfast. I can’t get over how beautiful this place is, our pictures certainly don’t do it justice!! We decided to try College Drive Café and this place was packed!! We ended up waiting for about 45 minutes but the food was really good so definitely worth it. We finished up breakfast, stopped for diesel and finally got on the road a little after 12:00 PM. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize Tim had the camera on a setting that wasn’t great for driving so almost all of the pictures we took at the beginning weren’t very good at all. Here are a couple that did turn out ok. We arrived at Molas Pass Summit and decided to take a short hike down to the lake. It’s certainly breathtaking!! We then headed back out towards Silverton. Unfortunately it started raining on our way so once again the pictures weren't turning out great. Just means we will have to come back and do it again :) One of the first animals we saw in the road. Tim thought it was a woodchuck. I thought maybe a beaver. We finally arrived in Silverton and took a drive through the town. We saw the train that we will be taking in October for the Pumpkin Patch. Lots of off road vehicles and trails that were available for them. Getting ready to head back onto the road again. Lots of signs saying to watch for rocks and wildlife. This area......I can't even really describe it. It is just so beautiful!! We then stopped at the Red Mountain Mining Overlook. We broke out the binoculars and gave them to Garrett so he could try to find some animals. Of course he loved that!! We were checking things out.....including the bird poop, LOL. Of course we had to get a couple of selfies in :) Some of the pictures Tim took while we were parked. Absolutely breathtaking!! Time to continue on down the road. While we were driving there were plenty of places along the road that were just complete drop offs. My Niece Alisha would definitely not have liked riding on this road. It sure was beautiful though!! Garrett of course was using the binoculars to continue looking for animals, LOL..... Getting ready to head through our first tunnel. We wondered if these were maybe built because so much rock had fallen in this area. Moving right along.... Oh my goodness!! This view........Tim actually stopped the truck so we could get a great picture of this!! A couple others he took while standing there. The next area we went through was a major rockfall area. You weren't allowed to stop or pull over for one mile. After we got done going through our mile all of a sudden there was a pull off. We walked out on the platform and we could see a waterfall down below us. So beautiful!! The railing that we walked out onto was pretty high up so I didn't make Garrett hold my hand the whole time. I think he enjoyed a little independence and was pointing out different things for Tim and I to look at. You just wanted to soak it all in!! LOL, taking a photo of me taking a photo...... Some interesting facts about the area. Heading back to the truck to continue on our adventure!! Back out on the road again and wasn't long before we came upon another tunnel!! Stopped at this lookout point to take a couple of pictures. Of course I had to get one of Tim as well :) We made it to the cute little town of Ouray. I wish we would have had more time as I would have liked to have soaked a bit in the naturals springs. But maybe we will leave that for next time. The town was very welcoming, but we didn't stay long..... There were very few houses on our trip. This house was way up in the mountains and Tim and I were discussing how they actually get up to the house with a vehicle. Definitely a nomad in this situation!! Do you see the rainbow on the mountain? So of course on our way back to Silverton we were looking pretty hard for some wildlife. Tim spotted something on the side of the road so we stopped to check it out. Oh my goodness, how precious! A mama deer and her babies!! Of course, I just can't stop taking pictures. Everything is just so beautiful!! We made it into Silverton about 6 PM. We ate at Handlebars Food & Saloon. The atmosphere was fun, however, the food was horrible :( After we finished eating we headed across the street to the gift shop. Not a lot in that store so I headed outside to let Garrett run for a bit. He's been inside of the truck for most of the day!! Back in the truck to head home. When we first got out of the truck I saw the green cross sign and just thought it was like an urgent care center. Upon getting back in the truck I noticed the 21 and up sign. Holy crow, it's a pot shop.......I mean I know it's legal in Colorado but I just wasn't thinking we'd see it. Back on the road again. This is the section where I didn't have many pictures going to Ouray. These turned out much better heading back to Durango!! Another deer we saw while driving. Our last stretch before coming into Durango, CO. We finally made it back to our RV in Gallup about midnight. It was such a great trip, but too short!! I've already booked us back at the KOA for a 5 day stretch next time. This area is so beautiful and there is just so much to explore!!
