We had a great time with them and look forward when we can see them again. Headed home around 11 pm. Will be heading out tomorrow to Redding, CA.
OK, I can barely contain myself. We are heading to San Francisco. I am so excited!! I have wanted to visit this city for so long. Can't wait to see the Golden Gate Bridge. We ate breakfast at a little winery up the road from the RV park and then finally got on the road about 10:30. It was a very scenic drive along the California Delta system. Going over our first bridge. Just a small one, but knowing that the waterways are from the ocean made it more interesting. Hmm, wonder if there are any sharks.... Such a very pretty drive. Coming into more lanes, must mean that we are getting closer to the city. We kept seeing what looked like a railway in between the two interstates. Sounds like they have a train system that will take you right into downtown so you don't have to drive or pay any of the tolls along the way. I think it would be a lot of fun to do that as they have all kinds of transportation downtown that you can take as well. Going through a tunnel. Woohoo, we are getting closer!! Signs saying San Francisco here we come :) As we were getting closer to the city you could see the fog over the mountains. It was the neatest thing. Downtown area is finally coming into view!! Crossing another bridge going over the bay. We had to pay a toll to cross this one. I can see why people use the train system, less traffic hassle and you don't have to pay the tolls for using the bridges. Heading into another tunnel, and Treasure Island. How cool would that be.... One last bridge and we are into downtown San Francisco, woohoo!! Heading into downtown San Francisco towards the Golden Gate Bridge. Love it!! As we are heading into the downtown area you can see the fog up in the houses on the hill. That was really neat to see. Finally made it downtown. Traffic isn't too bad. You can see the lines for the trolley cars and the buses. The architecture is so amazing on some of these buildings. We always thought Cincinnati was the most beautiful city we had been to. San Francisco definitely trumps them. Sorry Cinci :( Made the turn onto Lombard Street. Won't be that much longer now until we see the Golden Gate Bridge. So excited!! When Tim gets a contract in this city we are definitely going to do the touristy thing and get on one of those double decker buses!! Can you see it in the distance? Won't be long now and we will be crossing!! I think the fog makes it look eerie. What do you think? Getting ready to cross the Golden Gate Bridge. For some reason I was expecting it to be a lot longer. It is a very pretty bridge, and they have walkways on both sides for people who want to bike or walk across. One more item I can now cross off my bucket list!! Next we headed to the park right across the bridge called Vista Point. This place was VERY BUSY!! We got out with Garrett and Bailey while we took a couple more pictures. Alcatraz. Didn't have time to visit this time, but definitely will be a priority next time!! Lots of people so we are trying to find a spot to put our phone so we can take a family photo with the Golden Gate Bridge as a backdrop. While Tim is setting up I am against the wall with Garrett and the dog. All of a sudden a large group of tourists from I think Japan came up and wanted to take pictures with the dog and Garrett. It was absolutely hilarious. You would have thought they have never seen a dog or baby. They were talking to them and taking selfies with them. It was so funny to watch them interact with the dog and Garrett. Of course Garrett was all smiles and talking to each of them, and Bailey was loving all the attention given to her as well. I hope we made their experience here in the United States better as they thought Garrett and Bailey were great. Some of the tourists we were talking to were nice enough to take a couple shots of our family for us. Very nice people and I hope they enjoyed the rest of their stay here in the United States!! So beautiful!! Now that the fog is lifting somewhat you can see the bridge much better. Back on the road, next stop Sausalito for lunch. Sausalito, CA very beautiful city. Right on the bay and dog friendly area. The roads are steep!! Now to just find a place to eat... Decided on fish and chips for lunch. We ate outside on the patio. Such a nice area. Glad I dressed Garrett in pants, it is quite chilly here. Sounds like it is the same temp most of the year. After we finished eating we decided to go for a little walk up the street to the park they have in the area. Wow, the marina had some pretty amazing boats and there was a gentleman at the park that had a really neat bubble wand he was using. Was fun to sit and people/boat watch for a little while before we decided to head back to the truck. The city of Sausalito is absolutely breathtaking!! The views are amazing. So glad we had the opportunity to visit this little area. Heading back to downtown area and going back across the Golden Gate Bridge. Heading to Lombard Street in San Francisco. This is the very windy street that are in tons of movies. We actually got to drive down it. It is very steep and curvy. The roads in San Francisco are very steep in general but this was just crazy!! We then headed the rest of the way down the hill and turned around to take pictures of what we just came down. It was so neat to see it from the bottom of the street. We continued to drive through downtown. This is such a pretty city. They really care about their downtown area. Chinatown! The architecture in this city is amazing!! So many cool buildings. I love all of the buildings made out of glass. Traffic was starting to get really bad so we really got to inspect some of the outside features of these high rises. Cool looking car!! Heading out of the city. Seemed to take forever to get to my Great Aunt Margie's house. We got to my Great Aunt Margie and Uncle Carl's house. I've wanted to meet her for such a long time. She was the one that my Grandma Zola talked the most about. Her daughter Joyce was there to greet us as well. Garrett of course loved everyone. I can't wait to get back to San Francisco so we can spend some more time with them. 1 evening just wasn't enough time!! Aunt Margie and her daughter Trish took us out for dinner for seafood. We had our first Dungeness Crab. It was so good. We were right on the water and had an amazing view!! We are so thankful that we have the opportunity to visit with family we haven't seen. Hopefully our next contract will be for the San Francisco area. Keep your fingers crossed for us :)
We had a great time with them and look forward when we can see them again. Headed home around 11 pm. Will be heading out tomorrow to Redding, CA.
