Mar 8 - The day before we left I got a much needed haircut for me!! Mar 9 - Today we are heading to New Jersey. It will be a new state for us to put on our map, Yay!! We headed out this morning to go on the Cape May-Lewes ferry. We went to check in, only to find out that I had booked tickets for the wrong direction.....oops!! She fixed it for us, but that meant we had about 2 hours before we would be leaving. So we decided to take the dogs and Garrett to the beach and let them play since we would be in the truck most of the day!! Lots of fun finds on the beach that day. We then headed back to the ferry. Garrett was loving that he was able to stand in the middle and look out the top of the sunroof. This is the main building for the ferry. They have a restaurant, bathrooms, check in, etc in here. Most of it is closed right now because of Covid. They also have policing officers that go around and check out the vehicles. They have you open your trunk, or the bed of your vehicle and are checking inside of it. We finally were ready to board. This would be Garrett's first time on a ferry and he was very excited!! We left the dogs in the truck underneath and headed up to the top. We have about a 90 minute ride across and we were hoping to see all kinds of cool stuff as we were going. Unfortunately we only saw a lot of seagulls, but the ride across was still pretty cool!! Welcome to Cape May, NJ. Another new state to add to our map :) When we got off the ferry and began driving we noticed this part of Jersey was very marshy. We stopped for lunch at Cafe 101. Super yummy!! Next stop Atlantic City.....I'm wanting to recreate a photo I took when I was a little girl and my family went here. We finally made it.....very disappointed in how it looks today. Lots of graffiti. The area where I wanted to go get the picture just didn't look like a safe area to get out. So we just drove through and I took some pictures. Sad to see what this area is now :( We got back on the freeway and headed to Asbury Park. When my parents were first married this is where they lived. My mother worked in a candy shop on the boardwalk and my father was in the Army. I was excited to go and see where they once lived. The boardwalk and driving down the main strip of where the boardwalk is. My mother would often talk about the carousel on the boardwalk that her and my father would walk to and watch. It is so sad to see the state of it now :( It was starting to get later in the day so we decided to head towards Pennsylvania to get a hotel for the night. On our way we saw this memorial. I wish I would have gotten a better picture of it. It really was beautiful. We stayed at the Red Roof Inn and Suites in Mt. Holly, NJ. That night we ate at King of Pizza for dinner and it was sooo good!! The guys who own it were great. All in all New Jersey for us is probably a 1 and done. We've gone, seen and we probably won't be back. Its a small state and they don't seem like they do a great job in keeping it looking nice. I'm sure there are parts of it that are, but that is the impression that I got from traveling along most of it. The hotel we stayed at I would probably give a 3 out of 10. There were holes in the walls and ceiling and the room itself wasn't very clean. Thankfully we were only there for 1 night. I'm glad we went and we are definitely looking forward to going to Philadelphia tomorrow.
